The Austin man who missed his Friday pretrial appearance for child pornography charges was arrested Monday night during a traffic stop, according to Austin Police Chief Paul Philipp.

Philipp said Ryan Keith Pickar, 27, was stopped on Fifth Avenue Northwest around 9:30 p.m.

He faces eight counts of possession of pornographic work involving minors for alleged images and video found on a laptop he returned to E-Z Own Sales and Financing early 2007.

Pickar, who was training to be a police officer, told police that he never saved the files to the computer, though said he had viewed the images for research on a project on child pornography, the complaint said.

During forensic analysis by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, authorities found 106 images and 36 videos of child pornography, the complaint states. Several of the children are “known victims.”

A new court date has not been set.
