Letter: Statements made with misinformation

This letter is in response to M.R. Krachmer.

The problem with this world is that some people make up their minds with either very little or incorrect information. It is also very important before making comments, you should check out all of your information so that when you make statements, they are correct.

As to the comment that the Lansing Township has delayed or drug out this sewer issue, in the fall of 2006 we had a guaranteed bid for a complete system that would have been installed right away, but was turned down by the residents. This system would be operational now which would have solved the issue of water and land contamination.

Lansing Township is very concerned about ground water and soil contamination. We have worked very hard to provide an affordable system that would take care of all our residents sewer needs. Again, the Township is not the reason that you don’t have a completed system.

We represent all of Lansing Township, and we need to do what is best for everyone. Tax base income is important but has not been the issue of allowing the annexation to occur. In this total area of the annexation issue, there are many issues to consider before making up an intelligent decision. There are areas that home owners do not have a need or want to have a sewer and do not want to be annexed into the city. They moved into Lansing Township because they wanted rural living. Having these residents forced to be part of this system puts an unfair financial burden on them to help support a cheaper system for the total area. Why should these people be forced to be annexed? Don’t they have rights too?

Lansing Township is still in the process of providing a sewer system. We are confident that the annexation issue will be resolved and we again can get our system completed so pollution of this area can change. Is this not what we all want? We will start with the high priority areas and work with the rest of the area to provide an affordable system that won’t put an unfair financial burden on everyone.

Misinformation has been spread around in the past couple of years for the purpose of their own agenda. We only want to do what is right for all of the Lansing Township residents. Please get all the correct information by talking to both sides and keep an open mind so you can make an intelligent decision.
