Disaster relief drive Friday for MN, Iowa

Minnesota Corrugated, along with KATE/KCPI Radio in Albert Lea and KAUS AM/FM in Austin are conducting a one-day Disaster Relief Drive Friday for those have who suffered great loses as a result of floods and tornadoes in southern Minnesota and northern Iowa.

“Let’s Fill the Truck” collection points will be located from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hy-Vee in Austin and Minnesota Corrugated Box, 2200 YH Hanson Ave., Albert Lea. Radio stations will broadcast live from the collection sites.

Eighty percent of all collected contributions will go to northern Iowa; 10 percent to Mower County; and 10 percent to Freeborn County.

Several agencies will be receiving cash, including Mower County Chapter of the American Red Cross, Freeborn County Red Cross, Red Cross of North Central Iowa and Hawkeye Chapter of the Iowa Red Cross.

Food will be donated to the Mower County Food Bank, Albert Lea Salvation Army Food Pantry, Albert Lea Ecumenical Food Pantry, Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank and Alden Food Pantry.

Items requested by agencies include non-perishable food items, especially proteins, peanut butter, tuna and macaroni and cheese, Hamburger Helper, canned fruit, etc.; bedding; towels; toiletries; toilet paper and paper towels; and gloves.

Donations can also be mailed to Minnesota Corrugated Box, Disaster Relief Fund, P.O. Box 610, Albert Lea, MN 56007. Make checks payable to the American Red Cross.
