“PapaPalooza: Concerts for a Cure!” will be held at Deer Creek Speedway and will feature four bands from southeastern Minnesota, as well as a special evening concert by Almost Amy.
The dates have not yet been confirmed, but publicists are planning for an August date at the popular race track.
In addition, there is a “local connection” to the cancer research fundraiser.
Almost Amy (www.almost-amy.com) is quickly making its way into the spotlight and features both Mark Ballis and Derek Hough, as seen on ”Dancing with the Stars.” All the bands will perform on a large outdoor stage and Almost Amy will be available for meet-and-greets throughout the day.
Between performances, cancer survivors and researchers will share inspiring speeches and get the crowd involved in a mini Relay for Life. Event organizers will be on hand to get interested attendees on the walking track and luminaries will be sold throughout the day by The American Cancer Society. A lighting ceremony will be held at dusk. All funds will be donated to Mayo Cancer Research and The American Cancer Society in hopes of finding a cure.
Groups who have already signed on include: SpinDrift (www.myspace.com/spindriftjam) of Rochester, Jesse Smith of Austin and Untidaled Wave of Grand Meadow. The event is being organized by Vicky Vogt of Grand Meadow, in honor of her father, former state Rep. Bob Waltman, who is currently battling stomach cancer.
