A 29-year-old Brownsdale man died Monday from injuries suffered from a single-vehicle motorcycle accident on County Road 2 Saturday.

William Ryan Koenigs was traveling down County 2 followed by his brother when he lost control of his motorcycle and drove into the west ditch of the road around 12:45 p.m., according to Mower County Sheriff Terese Amazi, who added that he was driving between 55 mph to 60 mph without a helmet.

Amazi said he tumbled several times, which resulted in severe head and chest injury. Mayo One responded, and airlifted him to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. He was taken off life support Monday, she said.

Amazi reported that authorities found several bird feathers in the front left shock and fender of the Harley-Davidson.

“So they don’t know if he hit a bird or what the cause may have been,” she said.

A Hormel Foods employee, Koenigs married his wife, Mary, in 2004. According to his obituary, Koenigs enjoyed spending time with family, particularly his nieces and nephews, and had an avid interest in antique Oliver tractors and his motorcycle.

Funeral services will take place at Sacred Heart Oratory in Meyer, Iowa, at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Visitations will occur there Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m., with a wake service at 7 p.m.
