A 14-year-old who struck a van while riding his bicycle Thursday likely suffered minor injuries, according to Mower County Chief Deputy Mark May, who said teen collided with the motorist as the driver swerved to miss a second bicyclist.
May said 14-year-old Treigh Burkey of Austin may have been about to race the 8-year-old as the pair traveled eastbound on First Street Northwest around 6:50 p.m. They were exiting a parking lot to cross First Street near the 100 block when 41-year-old Amy Sue Eisenberg, also of Austin, almost hit the 8-year-old with her mini-van, according to May.
Burkey then collided with her vehicle.
May said Burkey was lying in the street in front of the van when police responded. He was taken to Austin Medical Center by Gold Cross ambulance; May stated that the officer noticed that he’d scraped both knees.
An AMC spokesperson could not be reached.
No one was cited, May said.
