Blooming Prairie celebration to feature teen dance, fireworks

This town’s Old-fashioned Fourth of July celebration kicks off today.

Beginning at 4 p.m., an entire schedule of family activities is planned in Blooming Prairie City Park.

The Taste of Blooming Prairie lineup of food vendors opens their stands.

There will be a pie and ice cream social, the Blooming Prairie High School students will operate a Moonwalk activity for children and there will be an Iron Man Challenge obstacle course.

There will be a magic show at 6:30 p.m. and the Schiffely Puppet Show gets underway at 7 p.m.

The $3 commemorative Old-fashioned Fourth of July buttons are required for admittance to the J&H Liquors street dance, beginning downtown at 8 p.m.

There will be a teen dance at the Blooming Prairie Servicemen’s Club from 8 to 11:45 p.m.

The Blooming Prairie Lions Club volunteers will serve breakfast beginning at 7:30 a.m. Friday at Prairie Manor Nursing Home.

The Awesome Blossom Run starts with registration at 8:15 a.m. at the high school.

There will be a Sweet Rides Car and Bike Show at Victory Field beginning at 9 a.m.

The 100-unit parade begins at 2:30 p.m. Friday. Come early and claim a spot at curbside. Immediately following the parade, the Su Fu Du Drum Percussion Band will entertain will entertain in Blooming Prairie City Park at 4 p.m. Friday.

At the same time, Luverne’s Concertina Band will entertain at the Blooming Prairie Servicemen’s Club.

As evening begins to settle over the community, there will be live entertainment in the park courtesy of KROC Music On Wheels.

Meanwhile, the 2-Man Underwear Race and other “peculiar” games will be worth watching at the beer garden in the park.

At 10 p.m., gaze skyward for the city’s fireworks display over Victory Field.
