Three have been charged with drug crimes following arrests at a local hotel early Tuesday morning, according to Austin Police Det. Brian Kruger.
David Earl Brechtel, 54; Sarah Nichole Brechtel, 32; and Derik James Zirbes, 34, have been charged with single counts of aid and abet a controlled substance crime in the 5th degree.
According to Kruger, police noticed Zirbes, of Rochester, on his bike during night patrol around 2:30 a.m. Zirbes told the officer that he was en route to Kwik Trip, Kruger stated.
The officer then pulled into a hotel, which Kruger would not name, and saw two people “all over the place” inside a room, the detective said.
Unsure if a domestic assault was taking place, the officer knocked on the door, which was answered by one of the two Bretchels, both of Austin, according to Kruger.
The detective said the officer suspected drugs use due to their hyperactivity; upon survey of the room, he noticed syringes, some of which contained a substance suspected to be methamphetamine.
Upon Zirbes return, the three were arrested. Police executed a search warrant at 8:45 a.m., and found drug paraphernalia and drug-filled syringes. Field tests showed that the substance tested positive for meth, Kruger said.
