Throw your hat in the ring for public office

There will be many government official positions up for election this fall: two seats on the Mower County Board of Commissioners, five seats on the Austin City Council and mayor of Austin.

Now is the time for anyone considering running for public office to grab that opportunity and get their feet wet in the campaign and election process.

Many seats have been held for a long time, and new faces and ideas bring a different perspective on issues.

The Austin Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting an informational seminar June 19, “Candidate 101.” Learn filing procedures, campaign organization and other practices at this free seminar at city hall.

Being educated about the process and the community is key to becoming an effective elected official.

There are many qualified and passionate candidates in the Austin area — bring your talents and ideas and help shape the outcome of our community’s future.
