Dennis Maschka, Austin’s Park, Recreation and Forestry director, died Sunday, leaving behind a legacy of city projects completed with hard work and vision.

Always a down-to-earth, regular guy, Denny was a central figure for many years as head of the department, and was an employee since 1975. He was an active supporter of Spruce Up Austin, and tried very passionately to make the city’s parks and playing fields something we could be proud of.

You’ll be missed, Denny.
