Letter: Student ‘legislators’ learned from experience
Published 8:14 am Tuesday, June 3, 2008
I recently had the priviledge of observing team 6C at Ellis Middle School as they conducted their Government Day. The students all has a role as senator, a represenative or the governor as they brainstormed issues, wrote bills, voted on them and passed them on to the next governmental branch. Both the house and senate passed 10 bills and the governor signed five of them involving issues such as eliminating assigned seating and expanding the Humane Society building in Austin. It was a wonderful experience to observe the students learning about how bills become laws by living the process. Thank you Mrs. Dunlap, Mrs. Stier and Mrs. Wright for the impressive learning experiences you provide throughout the year for our students.
