Henry M. Bartesch, 93, of Austin, died on May 31, 2008 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home.
Henry was born June 1, 1914 in Lakewood, Ohio to Mike and Rose (Bohl) Bartesch. On Jan. 27, 1943 he was united in marriage to Angela M. Frey in Kalamazoo, Mich. Henry worked for the Milwaukee Railroad and Hormel Foods. He enjoyed watching westerns and spending time with his family, collecting Lionel trains and he loved dogs.
Survivors include his children, Mary Ann (Franny) Nelson, Austin, Michael (Lynette) Bartesch, Austin, JoAnn Bartesch, Austin, Nancy (Mark) Gerber, Adams, Carol (Jerry Steffen) Bartesch, Forest City, Iowa, Jim (Penny) Bartesch, Austin; 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Angela on Dec. 19, 2003; his sister Helen in 2004; and an infant brother and sister.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 5, 2008 at St. Edward’s Catholic Church with Father Joe Fogal officiating. There will be a 6 p.m. wake service on Wednesday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 5-8 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery.
The honorary casket bearers will be Elizabeth Gerber and Terry Nelson. The casket bearers will be Ashley Bartesch, Mike Gerber, Janelle Lewison, Tim Nelson, Jerry Steffen and Tom Nelson.
