Emil Arndt

Emil Eugene “Dude” Arndt, age 72, of Austin, died on June 4, 2008 a his home.
Emil was born March 18, 1936 in Austin to Emil A. and Genevieve (Gorman) Arndt. On April 11, 1959 he was united in marriage to Deanna J. Apold at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin. He worked 27 1/2 years at Hormel Foods and also did 18 years of carpentry and remodeling. Emil was very fond of wood carving. He loved fishing, camping, being outdoors, spending time with his family and was always willing to lend a hand with projects around the house. He will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Deanna Arndt, Austin; sons, Todd A. (Kari) Arndt, Blooming Prairie, Kenny J. (Andrea) Arndt, Lancaster, Calif.; daughters, Edie (Donnie) Stier, Racine, Deidre (Jeff) Slowinski, Blooming Prairie; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; mother, Genevieve Arndt, Austin; brothers, Larry Arndt, Brownsdale, David Arndt, New Orleans, La.; sister, Beverly A. (Ron) Dotzenrod, Rochester.
He is preceded in death by his father, Emil A. Arndt; brother, Donnie Arndt; grandparents; mother-in-law, Melvina Apold.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Joe Fogal officiating. There will be a 6 p.m. wake service on Tuesday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4-8 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
The honorary casket bearers will be Nathan, Trevor, Justin and Kyle Nicholas, Ethan and Derek Arndt, Jared, Jacob and Colten Stier, Jacque (Stier) Rinn, Andrew, Cody and Zach Slowinski. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society and the National Kidney Foundation.
