Arlene Anderst

Arlene Louise Anderst, 81, of Austin, died at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home on June 2, 2008.
She was born Jan. 3, 1927 to Edwin and Loretta (Waters) Srock in Cleghorn, Iowa. The family moved to Minnesota when Arlene was a child. She grew up in Hollandale and later returned to Cleghorn, Iowa where she graduated from high school. After attending Western Union College in Lemars, Iowa, Arlene graduated from Bethany College in Mankato with high honors, earning her teaching degree in 1948. She married Arnold Anderst on July 6, 1952 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Austin where she was a very active member, serving as organist for many years. She taught kindergarten at Holy Cross Lutheran School for 31 years. Arnold passed away in 1994. Arlene enjoyed family gatherings, reading and sewing. Ill health required a move to St. Mark’s Lutheran Home in 2002.
Survivors include two daughters, Sheila Conner, Des Moines, Iowa; Sharon Bendel, Rochester; four grandchildren, Markus Bendel (fiancee’ Emily Berke), Jenna Bendel, Megan Conner, John Conner; two brothers, Gerald Srock, Sheboygan Falls, Wis.; Roger (Ruth) Srock, Stockton; sister-in-law, LaVonne Srock, Austin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Loretta and Edwin Srock; husband, Arnold; brother, Edwin “Gene” Srock; son-in-law, Markus Bendel; sister-in-law, Janet Srock.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 7, 2008 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church with the Reverend William Natzke officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Worlein Funeral Home, Austin, is in charge of arrangements. Interment is at Grandview Cemetery. The family prefers memorials to St. Mark’s Lutheran Home or Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
