Alfred Hackenmiller

Alfred Joseph Hackenmiller, 95, of Stacyville, Iowa, died on May 31, 2008, at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home in Stacyville. Alfred was born June 6, 1912, in Meyer, Iowa, to John and Helen (Blake) Hackenmiller. He grew up in the Meyer area and was educated in the Meyer School. During his adolescent years, he worked on the farm with his father. Alfred then went to work at the Mayo Farm and St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn., where he came to know the Mayo brothers, Dr. Will and Dr. Charlie. This is where he met the love of his life, Cecilia Barbara Klinkhammer. In 1935, he married Cecilia in Adrian, Minn. They farmed south of Meyer their entire life. Alfred took great pride in being a dairy farmer. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Meyer. His great love and enjoyment was his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Leon (Theresa) of Stacyville, Paul (Rita), St. Ansgar, Ken and friend Jane, Meyer, Charles (Shirley), Meyer; daughter, Betty (Barney) Retterath, Meyer; daughter-in-law, Joanne Hackenmiller Popp, Osage, Iowa; 34 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and sister, Catherine (Carl) Klapperich, Stacyville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Cecilia; two sons, John and Eugene; brother, Leo; and one grandchild.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at the Sacred Heart Oratory in Meyer, with Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Meyer. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Sacred Heart Oratory in Meyer. Visitation will continue one hour before services at the church.
