Kathy Wichmann is taking her nine years of expertise in financial services to her own office in the former Bone Appetit location.

One of several financial associates at Thrivent Financial for Lutherans in the Oak Park Mall, Wichmann had to plan for her future after learning their lease expired at the end of May.

“I’ve been keeping my eyes open for the past year,” she said.

When Bone Appetit owner Pam Miller advertised her business was for sale, Wichmann jumped at the opportunity.

The “canine bakery” closed March 30, and Wichmann became the fourth woman to own a business in the 1890 house on April 15.

Wichmann has extensively remodeled the interior of the business, which opens Monday.

“Thrivent offers everything from financial analysis to life insurance, annuities, mutual funds,” she said. “I also offer health insurance, long-term care, Medicare Plan B and Medicare Part D.”

Wichmann moved to Austin during the winter of 1999-2000 from Waseca, where she was born and raised. She lives with her husband, Tom, and three of her children: Laura, 20; Rebecca, 17; and Amanda, 16.

An open house will be held from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 17 with food and carnival games.

Thrivent is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and by appointment.

Wichmann’s office is located at 1211 Fourth St. NW, Austin. To make an appointment, call 437-6262.
