Lucille Hansen

Lucille Margaret Hansen, 93, of Austin, died on April 27, 2008, at Austin Medical Center.

She was born Dec. 29, 1914 to Frank and Ellen (Sundby) Dietrich in Austin, Minn. She graduated from Austin High School in 1933 where she discovered a lifelong interest in art. Lucille worked for several years at the Federal Bakery, often receiving praise from the manager for her creative window displays. She met and married the love of her life, Harry L. Hansen, on Dec. 16, 1941. They celebrated 64 years of marriage in 2005. Lucille was a child care provider for several years. She was known for her baking, especially apple pies, which she would give to friends and shut-ins. She also made her own greeting cards, including the verses inside the cards. She enjoyed embroidery, giving away her work to family and friends. Lucille was a strong and loving support to her family, caring for her elderly parents and her husband when he became ill. She loved her neighbors and friends; many of them were acquaintances for several years. A member of Grace Lutheran Church for many years, Lucille had a strong faith, evidenced by her words and deeds.

She is survived by a daughter, Ellen (Robert) Cox, Rochester; son, Stephen Hansen, Austin; six grandchildren, Joel (Lisa) Cax, David Cox, Christian Cox, Amy (Sean) O’Hara, Nicole Knutson, Jessica (Dominic) Kosmosky and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry, in 2006; her parents and one sister, Gladys Jensen.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at Grace Lutheran Church in Austin with the Reverend Robert Iverson officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment is at Oakwood Cemetery in Austin. Worlein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are preferred to St. Jude’s Hospital for Children or Shriner Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis.
