Youth tourney begins Friday

The 25th annual Austin International Youth Baseball Tournament begins Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. with the opening ceremonies at Todd Park's North Complex. Sixteen teams from three states and Canada will be in action through Sunday.

The 16-team field will be separated into four divisions for round-robin pool play. Records will determine placement into Saturday and Sunday's championship and consolation brackets.

Games begin at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with the tournament championship slated for 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

On Friday, The Austin Jaycee All Stars play their first game at 11:30 a.m., while the Austin 'White' team plays its opener at 1:30 p.m.

This year's Youth International Tournament is dedicated to Mike and Cindy Holtorf, and HyVee will receive the Sponsor of the Year award. Full concessions will be available throughout the event.

The teams in the tournament are comprised of boys and girls 12-and-under. This year's event will have four girls playing, more than in any tournament in the recent past.
