Lyle School Board to see more plans

Three more school plans will be presented to the Lyle School Board Monday and the cost estimates keep decreasing.
The plans, drafted by Gary Nyberg of Smiley, Glotter and Nyberg Architects, for school construction on the current site come in between $7.3 million and $8.3 million.
Estimated costs of four plans presented this past spring came in around $9 million.
The new plans are significantly less expensive than the $11.1 million plan voters turned down last November. After sending out a survey to district residents, the Lyle School Board decided the interest was there to revamp the current school. But the survey responses also indicated that the project needed to be more affordable.
Last month, the board considered moving the project off-site. The board was looking at a 32-acre piece of land just north of the school. School Board President Dwight DeBoer asked the property owner about selling it, but the offer was declined, said Principal Royce Helmbrecht.
Helmbrecht said the board has not given up on the idea of building off-site, but said finding enough land within city limits is difficult.
The Lyle School Board meets at 7 p.m. Monday at the school.
