More than 11,000 pounds of fireworks will explode over Austin tonight and Saturday.
Rich Bros.' technicians are prepared to ignite the twin fireworks displays electronically.
Last weekend's Weisfest fireworks display over the Mower County Fairgrounds in southwest Austin was also ignited electronically by Flying Thunder technicians.
Austin Fire Chief Dan Wilson's department has been busy inspecting the several vendors selling fireworks in Austin. A relaxation of the state law has allowed more non-aerial and non-exploding fireworks to be sold.
The local Fire Department visited with each fireworks vendors and shared the newly revised state law with them, plus other pertinent information, including a State Fire Marshal's Office fact sheet.
Wilson reiterated earlier advisories that only people 18 or older can purchase fireworks in Minnesota and they must have a proper photo ID.
"Legal fireworks can be set off with the supervision of an adult," said Wilson. "The must be non-aerial and non-explosive and set off only on private property; not public property."
The Rich Brothers were permitted by the local fire chief to ignite two displays tonight over the Mill Pond Pathway in Horace Austin Park and Saturday night over Austin Community Bandshell Park at the conclusion of the Concert in the Park activities.
