Brendhan and Jeanne Wagner and their children know how to make a house a home.
It's done from the inside and the outside.
Their front yard is the first hint that 707 First Ave. SW is a special place.
How special? Answer: Special enough to be named the winner of the first Yard of the Month award presented by Spruce Up Austin, Inc.
The award was presented Monday night by a delegation of SUA, Inc. board members headed by Jerry Adwell, president.
In presenting the award, Adwell praised the couple for their "superb" yard work.
A close-up look at both the front yard enhancements as well as the side and backyard landscaping revealed just how superb the effort has been.
Stone work lines the outer extremities of the Wagner family's backyard. Shrubs and flowers -- dominated by the color purple -- are separated from the center backyard area by stones.
The couple said their yard work is a "work in progress" and done a little at a time when energies and ambition combine with shrubs, flora and fauna.
The Wagners received the congratulations of all SUA, Inc. board members and a gift certificate at Super Fresh Produce and Garden Center.
According to Adwell, three other Yards of the Month will be named this summer and fall.
The recognition program is designed to encourage neighborhood enhancements done one-neighbor-at-a-time.
