Sports Shorts: Austin Country Club had two holes-in-one last week

This weekend saw two holes-in-one at the Austin Country Club, and both were made on the 152-yard 13th hole.

On Friday, Bill Rugg of Austin sunk his second career ace with a 6-iron. His shot was witnessed by Mel Saxton, Jim Weber, and Jim Lessard, all of Austin.

Tom Belshan of Glenville stuck a 9-iron for his hole-in-one on Sunday. Rugg witnessed this shot, as did Austin residents Ron Petersen and Kelly Wadding.

Jaycees All-Stars score third place at Blue Earth

The Austin Jaycee All-Stars baseball team took third-place medals in the Blue Earth Tournament over the weekend.

The Jaycees opened tournament play Saturday with a 16-1 win over Worthington, with J.J. Kirby, Nate Justice, Nate Wagner and Adam Johnson furnishing the hitting power.

Austin then lost to Fairmont 10-2.

On Sunday, the Stars overcame an eight-run deficit to beat Lake Crystal, 15-14, with Johnson, Mitch Nagele and Andrew Orcutt getting extra-base hits. Colin Clennon was 2-for-2.

The Stars then beat Waseca 13-3 for the third-place medal. Wagner and Mark Harber teamed up for the mound win and Steven Rizzi was 3-3 at the plate.

This weekend, the Stars will be in the Northfield Tournament.
