This week residents received flyers in the newspaper about the Mower County recycling program and its schedule.

Just last year, the program not only collected reusable materials, it brought more than $130,000 back to the county.

But county officials say the program reached its peak in use in the mid-1990s and seems to have leveled off.

Soon packets on why recycling is important will be available. Some benefits include saving natural resources and helping the county.
