Both Section 1A golf team champions repeated their appearance at the top of the scoring chart as Rochester Lourdes' boys' golf team and the girls from Caledonia/Spring Grove won respective titles Tuesday at Mount Frontenac Golf Course near Lake City.

Southland/Grand Meadow's boys' team represented Sub-Section 2 and came in third despite a school-record score of 319 for 18 holes. Two S/GM golfers -- sophomores Brady Lorenzen and Bryan Peck -- finished in the top five for individuals not on the championship team, thus qualifying for the state tournament.

The Class A state meet is June 4-5 at Izatys Golf Courses -- Black Brook and The Sanctuary -- in Onamia.

Peck won a five-man playoff for one spot, tying five others at 79. Lorenzen shot 78 with a 2-over-par 37 on the back nine.

Teammate Eric Kiefer, also a sophomore, shot an 80 and finished 17th overall. Senior Gary Kiefer carded an 82, and sophomore A.J. Wiste added a 90.

Blooming Prairie's Steven Busho led a pair of Blossom qualifiers by shooting 81, tied for 20th overall. Scott Krejci added a 95.

Hayfield's lone qualifier, sophomore Andrew Frydenlund, finished tied for 38th with a 91.

On the girls' side, Blooming Prairie sophomore Calla Swenson missed out on a return trip to state with a 91, tying for 13th overall. The Blossom girls' team finished fourth out of four as Caledonia/Spring Grove repeated its crown. C/SG finished fourth as a team at state last year.

JoAuna Iacovino shot a 99, Jessica Smith a 104, and Shelby Underwood a 111 to round out the Blossom scoring. Missy Johnson and Elizabeth Newman both shot 115.

Hayfield eighth-grader Lisa Frydenlund shot a 104 and finished tied for 35th overall. Lyle/Pacelli senior Sammi Jones, a state qualifier as a sophomore, shot consecutive rounds of 56 and finished 40th overall.

Southland/Grand Meadow qualifiers Cathy Schneider and Charlotte Retterath finished at the back of the pack. Retterath, a junior, shot a 116, and Schneider, a sophomore, carded 115.
