Wava M. True, 94, of Austin, died at St Mark's Lutheran Home Wednesday afternoon, May 28, 2003.
She was born Dec. 20, 1908, in Thornton, Iowa, the daughter of Will and Martha (Phelps) Lewis. Wava graduated from Downing High School, Downing, Wis. in 1927.
On July 31, 1928, she was united in marriage to Jesse James True in Crown Point, Ind. They made their home in Austin, where Wava was an active member of Crane Community Chapel and served as Sunday school superintendent for many years.
She was devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren and enjoyed baking cookies for them.
Survivors include her children, Gregory (Darlene) True of McAllen, Texas, Marlene (Kent) Sterling of Faribault, Douglas (Renee) True of Hanford, Calif. and Joyce Finholdt of Austin; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Marjorie Murphy of Rockford, Ill.; a brother, Richard Lewis of Norfolk, Va.; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 59 years, Jesse James True; a grandson, Robert True; two great-grandchildren, Steven Sterling and Garrett Sterling; six brothers; her twin, Weston Lewis, Chris "Wilford," John and Milton and twins in infancy, Lenard Delyle and Lyle Deforest Lewis; and two sisters, Violet Moon and Ivanelle Chuick.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, May 31, 2003, at Crane Community Chapel with Rev. Randy Petersen officiating. Burial will follow the service in Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 30, at the Worlein Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
