The Hayfield softball team split a pair of games on Saturday and was eliminated from Section 2AA play to end its season at Caswell Park in Mankato -- the site of the annual state tournament.
The Vikings moved through the consolation round with a 4-3 defeat of New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva, before Blue Earth Area knocked them out with a 7-2 decision Saturday in Mankato.
Jessica Clayton and Tara Kramer each went 2-for-3 in the win over NRHEG. Clayton had an RBI single in the first inning and Kramer a two-run double in the third.
Senior pitcher Cassie Kraetsch allowed nine hits and one walk while striking out seven.
Errors and some hard-hit balls by BEA brought the Vikings' season to an end in a 7-2 game. Kraetsch and the defense surrendered five runs in the first two innings but buckled down to play the Buccaneers even the rest of the way.
Justine Sanvick singlehandedly led the comeback with a 3-for-3 day at the plate, including a double
and a triple. Jessie DeMaria was 2-3 with a triple as well.
The youthful Viking squad finished the season 10-11 overall.
