Volunteers come in all shapes and sizes.

At Comforcare Good Samaritan Center, they come in children's sizes.

Among the hard-working corps of volunteers are children.

"We appreciate their efforts, too," said Joanne Aho, activities director. "They help a lot with their visits to the care center. All our volunteers are important to our residents and Comforcare."

Two of the younger volunteers are the sons of Teri Bergstrom. The mother brings Rainier, 11, and his younger brother, Logan, 9.

The boys make regular visits to Comforcare Good Samaritan Center in Austin.

"They've been doing it for over a year now," said their mother. "They do different activities with the residents once a month. The activities are seasonal and have a different theme all the time."

Rainier and Logan regularly visit with residents in their rooms at the care center in addition to the group activities.

They make cookies on St. Valentine's Day and also lead group activities including making butter and ice cream.

The boys, who are home-schooled by their mother, were among the volunteers honored Monday at a dinner sponsored by the Comforcare Care Center staff at St. Edward's Catholic Church's new family center.

"I just enjoy helping the residents in any way I can," said Rainier of his volunteer activities. "It feels good to help others," said Logan.

One of the boys' favorite activities was making bird feeders with residents.

The Comforcare volunteers enjoyed dinner Monday, musical entertainment and gifts from management, crosses made of a rare wood. The volunteers also watched a video on protecting health information about a resident's condition.

Georgette Hinkle, administrator, praised the volunteers.

"They make a difference in our residents' lives every day they visit Comforcare," she said. "We appreciate everything they do for our residents."
