Bue contributes for Metro Stars

Lisa Bue, an Austin High School junior, helped the Minnesota Metro Stars AAU girls' basketball team win the state championship with eight consecutive victories recently.

The Metro Stars finished first on May 14 in the 17-and-under age group of the Division I AAU State Tournament. It was the third consecutive year the Metro Stars have taken the state championship in the most competitive division in Minnesota AAU basketball.

This is the fifth consecutive year the team will represent Minnesota at the National Championships, this year being held in Orlando, Fla.

The Metro Stars opened with a 97-51 win over Minnesota All Net, and then beat the Minnesota Stars 81-49. In the semifinals, a win 79-54 over North Tartan took the team to the championship game. With a 66-47 victory over the Minnesota Summit, the Metro Stars received the championship trophy.

Team members included Lisa Bue (Austin), Kelly Mullaney (Eden Prairie), Danye Guinn (St. Francis), Katie Tacheny (Woodbury), Kelly Rae Finley (Breck), Melissa Miller (Breck), Steph Reiter (Blaine), Sarah Austin (Bloomington Jefferson), Leslie Knight (Hopkins) and Krista VandeVenter (Osseo). Steve Reiter is the head coach of the squad, assisted by Julie Grimm.
