The test results for Austin Public Schools' eighth graders are not up to state averages, according to results released Wednesday.
Austin students posted a 65.5 percent pass rate for the math test, compared to about 72 percent statewide. In reading, 75 percent of Austin students passed compared to 81 percent statewide.
Sheila Berger, educational services director for Austin Public Schools, said she was concerned about the results, which marked a downturn from last year. However, Berger said that to some degree, comparing one year to the next is like "comparing apples to oranges."
Ellis Middle School Principal Candace Raskin said despite the lower results this year, the scores were consistent with the three years previous to that.
