Packers swing through it

If there are such a thing as good omens, then perhaps an otherwise disappointing afternoon by the Austin girls' golf team might not be so bad after all. The Packers shot a 383 to beat out visiting Mankato East Friday afternoon, an effort reminiscent of their 399 two years ago against this same team in a season that ended in a Big Nine Conference title.
"Not a great day," said AHS head coach Mark Anderson, "but we have to remember that it is our first meet and we haven't played in almost five months."
Claire Johnson and Carissa Gabrielson both had their struggles, carding a 101 and a 103 respectively.
"Carissa's normally our best putter," said Anderson, "but she had her toughest day out there on the greens."
Andrea Peterson shot a 90 to lead all golfers.
Another bright spot for the Packers was the scoring of freshmen Katelyn Rizzi, and Jessica Astrup "played very well for the first time out," in the estimation of Anderson.
"I know these girls will shot better the rest of the year," said Anderson, "we just have to remember that you can't lose anything in one meet and that we have a long season ahead of us."
The Packers travel to Northern Hills this Tuesday to meet Rochester Century.
