Mental lapse nearly costs Blossom softball

It was a rollercoaster ride for the Blooming Prairie softball team Monday. The Blossoms blew a seven-run lead against Alden-Conger but were able to come away with a 13-8 win thanks to five sixth-inning runs.
"We definitely let them back in the game," said BP head coach Chad Gimbel, "but I thought our kids responded well."
The Blossoms built up an 8-1 lead after four innings. The visiting Knights began to chip away though, capping off their comeback with four runs in the top of the sixth to tie it up at 8-8.
BP answered this challenge in the bottom of the inning. Hilary Jones was hit by a pitch to start off the rally. A single and a stolen base by Laura Wurst one out later put runners on second and third. Mindy Johnson and Jill Prihoda came through with pinch-hit singles to bring in three runs, with Prihoda coming around later to score on a wild pitch.
Andrea Miller then drew a walk, stole second and third, and came around to score on a throwing error when she took third to cap the five-run outburst.
"Our hitting was impressive today," Gimbel said, "but we got a little too complacent."
Wencl pitched her third straight complete game, allowing six hits and fanning 14.
BP improves to 3-0 going into today's 4:30 p.m. non-conference game against visiting Lyle/Pacelli.
