City Administrator Patrick McGarvey deserves kudos for the time and effort he's put into his post for the past 11 years.
McGarvey is retiring at the end of the month. In his time, he's helped oversee the building of the Town Center and the Austin Public Library, among other projects.
In many instances, holding public office can be a thankless job -- especially that of a high-level city official. But McGarvey has proved his worth and gotten the job done.
Austin has seen tremendous growth in economic projects in just the past decade. Although McGarvey isn't solely responsible, his handprints are evident.
We appreciate the job that McGarvey has done for the city of Austin and its residents, and we wish him well in the years to come.
