Mark your calendars for the annual Spring Used Book Sale at the Austin Public Library, set for May 2 and 3. The doors open at 9 a.m. and books will be sold until 4:30 p.m. This annual event is sponsored by the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and the Friends of the Library.

"This will be my first Used Book Sale in Austin. I do know that this library has been very successful in their book sales. People are very supportive here," said Ann Hokanson, the Austin Public Library director.

Adult books, VHS, DVD's and cassette tapes are all for sale. Donations will be taken until May 1. The day before the sale, the Friends of the Library and the AAUW are busy organizing the donated goods.

Children's books are especially wanted, as these can be pricey when new. Excluded in the donations are magazines, textbooks and Reader's Digest Condensed Books.

"The day before the sale is a fun day organizing the books. We already have some beautiful books donated," said Laura Kuehl, an AAUW member.

The costs of the books are $1 for hard cover and 50 cents for soft cover.

Beginning at 2 p.m. on May 3, books will be sold by the bag. The AAUW only helps with the spring Used Book Sale. The AAUW provides most of the staff for this sale. The volunteers take two-hour shifts the days of the sales. The money from the book sale is divided up between the Library and the AAUW. The AAUW uses the money raised for scholarships for women.

"This book sale is a great time to get good affordable books and for people to clean out their bookshelves. It is a very short sale as it is only two days," Kuehl said.

Hokanson added that the Friends of the Library are always looking for new members. For information, contact President Dale Odegaard at 437-4970.
