Seven-year-old Olivia Krachmer of Austin was struck by a car Thursday at 6:49 p.m. while riding her bike on the 1200 block of Fourth Avenue SE.
According to police reports, she was traveling east and made a 90-degree turn across the street when she was hit by Lisa Madsen, 30, of Austin who was driving west.
Krachmer's right temple was bleeding, and she was initially unresponsive. She was taken to Austin Medical Center by ambulance and then taken by helicopter to Rochester. The full extent of her injuries was not known.
Madsen was uninjured. She said she did not seen anyone until the impact. She said the sun impaired her vision.
According to Larry Seiver of Austin, the only witness, she was not speeding. Madsen was not ticketed.
Check fraud reported
Joellen Bulow, 50, of Lyle reported an incidence of check fraud. Apparently, in March of 2001, someone cashed a prepaid check in her name from a credit card company for $5,000. Bulow became aware of the incident when the credit card agency called her for payment.
Lost earring found
Thanks to a good Samaritan, someone missing an earring has the opportunity to retrieve it.
According to an Austin Police Department report, the earring was discovered in the parking lot outside the Shopko Store in OakPark Mall Wednesday afternoon.
The unidentified good Samaritan took the earring to the Austin-Mower County Law Enforcement Center. There it was examined and described as an "expensive-looking" earring.
Austin police are asking anyone missing the earring to call the LEC at 437-9400 with a description and the rightful owner could be matched with the missing jewelry.
