Frydenlund family is out for golf

The Frydenlund family has a monopoly on the Hayfield golf squads this season, with the leading performer on both the boys' and the girls' team falling from the same branch of the family tree.
Eighth-grader Lisa Frydenlund was a sectional qualifier -- one of two seventh-graders to advance to the state-qualifying meet -- for the Vikings last year. Her older sister Kristi, a senior last season, tied for fourth in the section and advanced to tie for 11th overall at the Class A state meet.
"We're expecting hopefully good things from Lisa this year," said Hayfield head coach Dave Helberg. "We're really starting from scratch. We lost a couple of our top golfers in Kristi and Molly (McCamy) and we're really young.
"We had a number of eighth-grade and ninth-grade girls, so we do have some young ones coming along."
Andrew Frydenlund is the top returning performer for the boys' squad. Hayfield plays in a challenging sub-section but is hopeful for this Frydenlund to force his way through to sections in this, his sophomore season.
"He's going to be a good player for us," Helberg said.
Andrew Heydt, Ryan Sowers and Alex Reese look to fill out part of the Vikings' varsity roster.
"And you never know what kind of surprises you're going to have," Helberg added.
Hayfield will compete in the Hiawatha Valley League's Gold Division, which is led inevitably by two-time state champion Rochester Lourdes on the boys' side.
