People of many faiths will have a chance to worship together Friday for the annual Good Friday Ecumenical Prayer Service at Saint Augustine church in Austin.
Ten area churches are participating, with a representative from each playing a role in the service. A mixture of scripture, prayer and a community reading of the passion of Christ is on the agenda for the evening.
Music will be provided by the Northwestern Singers, under the direction of Les Mala, and a women's quartet called "In Synque."
Chorus member Harlan Nelson said the musical finale will be very entertaining.
"The singers go out among the congregation and sing," he said. "It's kind of the one everybody waits for."
Father Paul Nelson, of Saint Augustine, said the service has been very popular in the past. He said it's been going on since before he came to Austin 10 years ago, and between 350 and 500 people usually attend.
"I think it's an opportunity for Christian people to respect each other's traditions and come together as brothers and sisters and stand before the Almighty," he said.
The service starts at 7 p.m. at Saint Augustine. Cookies and punch will be served afterward.
