The Blooming Prairie girls' softball team failed to come up with the needed offense to get back on the winning track, falling to United South Central 4-1.
The game was dominated by the girls on the mound as the game turned out to be a pitcher's contest. Emily Wencl pitched all seven innings allowing only three hits and one earned run. Wencl (4-3) fanned eight Rebel batters, walking none.
Andrea Schultz pitched all seven innings for USC giving up three hits and striking out six Blossom batters. Schultz walked one and hit a batter.
"This game turned out to be a pitcher's dual," said BP coach Chad Gimbel. "This was a tough loss for Emily. We were pretty much beat up by their defense."
Andrea Miller, Amanda Schlund, and Angela Noble all went 1-3 out of the batter's box, with Miller scoring the lone Blossom run. USC's three unearned runs came in the third inning with the final run coming in the top half of the fifth inning.
The Blossoms dropped to 4-3 overall and 3-3 in the conference, while USC improved to 4-5 overall.
Blooming Prairie will host a makeup game today against Triton at 5 p.m.

"Steve pitched a good game tonight," said Blooming Prairie coach Chris Staloch. "He got a little tired in the fifth and sixth innings, but really came back strong in the seventh. It is a lot of fun to watch him pitch."
USC's Mike Soma and Dave Neubauer combined their efforts in the Rebel loss.
