Despite some key losses from last year's squad, the Lyle/Pacelli boys' golf team still has plenty of weapons to be competitive in the reconfigured Southeast Conference.

"The top golf schools left the conference," said L/P head coach Mark Buntje, "and even though Lanesboro and Glenville should be tough, we should be top three this year."

After finishing 7-3 behind only Southland, L/P lost two-time section qualifier Jamie Knudtson to graduation and Tom Kluczny to Austin High. They do return the rest of their top six golfers.

Leading the way should be the tandem of freshman Tyler Fett and senior Mark Van Winter, as both were named All-Conference last season.

Shawn Pfeil also had a successful 2002 campaign, making honorable mention All-Conference. Fellow junior Kyle Fett rounds out this varsity-experienced quartet.

David Judd and Alex Schilling will be in the running for the last two slots, as both garnered lots of experience on the B-squad last spring.

Seventh-grader Ryan Fett will be looking to join his two brothers on the varsity as well.

"He's got a lot of summer tournament experience," said Buntje, "so he should be able to help us out."

L/P begins its season April 7 against Houston at Ramsey.
