Voice your opinion of standards

The Academic Standards Committee came back with a draft of new standards in seemingly record time Tuesday after only three weeks of meeting.
House members praised the amount of thought and detail 77 community members and teachers put into the standards.
The Senate's reaction was more reserved, but perhaps these new standards will convince them that some sort of change needs to happen with the vague and often time-consuming, Profile of Learning standards the state currently uses.
Education Commissioner Cheri Pierson Yecke will be presenting the proposal in Austin Friday. We encourage residents concerned about school curriculum to attend and voice opinions about the proposed standards.
That feedback may help lead the state to find the best standards possible for Minnesota students.
