Austin Area Chamber of Commerce members, their employees and guests will have the opportunity to hear what Gov. Tim Pawlenty has to say Monday about the state's budget crisis.
Pawlenty is scheduled to speak to those in attendance from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. in the Ruby Rupner Auditorium at the J.C. Hormel Nature Center.
Sandy Forstner, the chamber's executive director, said Pawlenty will address financial issues that will be of importance to both area residents and business leaders. Forstner underscored how vital businesses are to keeping this state's economy afloat.
"They're very important," Forstner said. "It's business that creates jobs. Obviously, that's going to be part of the conversation. We need to get jobs in the state of Minnesota. Jobs are important, there's no doubt about that. That's why he wants to talk."
Pawlenty's visit to Austin is the first stop on a three-city tour that day. The governor also is scheduled to make appearances in Owatonna and St. Cloud.
"I think it's a great opportunity anytime that we can get the governor in Austin," Forstner said. "It's nice to know the governor is concerned about our area and our part of the state. It's nice that he can take time out of his busy schedule and hear firsthand from our members."
Pawlenty's talk is co-sponsored by the chamber and the Development Corporation of Austin. Pre-registration for the event, which includes breakfast, is required by Thursday and can be done by calling the chamber office at 437-4561.
