Milton A. Clemons, 79
Milton Anthony Clemons, age 79, of Waseca, retired owner of the Clemons Bus Line in Waseca, died Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2003, at 1 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca with Fr. John Kunz, Fr. Joseph Mountain and Deacon James Myers, concelebrating. Interment with military honors will be held at the Calvary Cemetery in Waseca.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 3 to 8 p.m. at the McRaith Funeral Home in Waseca and will continue on Saturday at the church for one hour prior to services. A family prayer service will be held on Friday evening at 8 p.m. with the public invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that memorials be directed to the Waseca Area Hospice Program.
Milton Anthony Clemons, the son of Martin and Mary (Wesley) Clemons, was born on Jan. 1, 1924, in LeSueur County on their family farm. He attended Cleveland High School and graduated with the class of 1941.
On Oct. 29, 1945, he was united in marriage to Winifred Muldoon at the All Saints Catholic Church in Madison Lake, Minn. Milt attended basic training in Sheepshead Bay, N.Y. prior to serving in the United States Merchant Marines from 1944 to 1946 during World War II. In 1946, after his service time, Milt drove bus for Waseca Schools and purchased his first school bus in 1947. He was an owner/operator of Clemons Bus Lines, Inc. for 50 years, retiring in 1997. In the 1960s he worked as a police officer for the city of Waseca and later as a Waseca County Deputy Sheriff. He was a Ruan Transport Driver and contracted driving for Birds Eye Foods during harvesting season. He worked as a salesperson for MFA Insurance Company and later as a school bus sales person for E. Hoiby Bus Company of Minneapolis.
He is survived by his wife, Winifred Clemons of Waseca; by two sons and their wives, Michael (and Beth) Clemons of Waseca and Patrick (and Laura) Clemons of Red Wing; by four daughters and their husbands, Mary Kay (and Dan) Kortuem of Mankato, Judith (and Steven) Conway of Waseca, Jeanette (and Vance) Swanson of Waseca and Lisa Jo (and Dr. David) Byron of Hutchinson, Minn.; by 19 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; by five brothers, Lawrence (and Leta) Clemons of Waseca, Joseph Clemons and friend Barb of Oakdale, Minn., Leonard Clemons and friend Kay of Des Plaines, Ill., James (and Mary Kay) Myers of Portland, Ore. and Jerry (and Marlene) Myers of Maple Grove, Minn.; by a sister, Rita Gallagher of Polson, Mont.; and nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends
He was preceded in death by his parents; by an infant daughter, Catherine Clemons; a sister, Loretta Hoffman; and a special cousin, Patricia Winjum.
Shirley J. Stilwell, 81
Shirley J. Stilwell, 81, of Austin, died Monday, March 10, 2003, at Sacred Heart Care Center.
She was born Jan. 30, 1922, on the Dugstad Farm in Bloomfield Center, to Lewis and Lillian (Halling) Dugstad.
On Oct. 2, 1971, she married Donald R. Stilwell Sr. at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
Shirley was a homemaker and a country school teacher.
Survivors include her husband, Donald Stilwell Sr., Austin; children, Don Jr. (Karen) Stilwell, Austin; Barbara (Gary) Heimer, Woodbury; David (Cheryl) Stilwell, Bloomington; Mary Lou Johnson, Stewartville; Patty (Jim) Urlick, Austin; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers, Earl (Leota) Dugstad, Lake City; Lloyd (Jeanne) Dugstad, Albert Lea; sisters, Goldie (George) Shaw, Ventura, Calif.; Carol Jean Cadwell, Bemidji.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Sherry; sister, Doris.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. today, March 13, 2003, at the funeral home and Friday at the church for one hour before the service.
Service: 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Pastor Ron Barnett officiating. Casket bearers will be Deryk Stilwell, Sara Moe, Anne Bergersen, Cathy Cunningham, Mary Elaine Paulson, Teresa Shaw, Matthew Stilwell, Lisa Wolf, Kevin Johnson, Joseph Urlick, Fred Baldwin, Jeff Stilwell, Mark Stilwell, Ryan Stilwell, Michael Urlick, Ryan Urlick and Bryan Dugstad.
Interment: Calvary Cemetery.
