New guns give police options

Kudos to the Austin Police Department for looking at non-lethal options to help subdue people they may be trying to either arrest or disperse.
The department purchased three Pepperball guns that fire small balls filled with pepper powder that explode on impact.
The powder is designed to irritate the throat and eyes of the victim.
Police Capt. Curt Rude said the "technology is meant to keep some distance between the officer and the person having force used against them."
Apprehending suspects through any non-lethal means is the best way to accomplish the task. That's not only necessary for the safety of both police personnel and for those whom they seek, but is also a wise move in today's ever-increasing litigious society.
Purchasing these weapons are a good step to help make our community a safer place.
