Kudos go out to Austin's T.J. Parlin and Hayfield's Shane Masching for winning titles in their respective weight classes this past weekend at the state wrestling championships in St. Paul.

Parlin, a junior at Pacelli High School, captured his title after placing third at state for the past two years. Masching repeated his feat after winning the state title last year.

Both Parlin and Masching's efforts underscore the talent and dedication of many wrestlers in the Herald's circulation area. A total of 14 wrestlers in this area qualified for state, with the majority of those coming from the Southland High School region.

We applaud those champions and state qualifiers not only in wrestling, but also in other sports that are wrapping up for the winter season. These students' dedication (along with that of their parents) each make their school and community proud.
