Businessman turns trash into cash

A new business in Blooming Prairie was established this past January that, for a small fee, has garbage bins large enough to hold a car.

The garbage bins are ready for delivery for special situations. Be it for residential or commercial use, the bins are for an abundance of garbage that is difficult to get rid of.

The business is Ameri-Can and they will deliver the bins to the site indicated. When the container is filled, the company will haul it away. For a small fee, you can hire Ameri-Can to help with your clean up if you are unable to do it yourself.

Craig Kruckeberg, is the sales and marketing representative for this service center. Kruckeberg is a lifelong resident of Blooming Prairie. He ventured into the large trash container business because he saw that this type or market was needed here.

"I sell mud fenders to Ameri-Can and through speaking with them, I saw the opportunity for more growth in my business. I have two young sons and I want to make sure they have something to do when they get older," Kruckeberg said.

Large family photos of his family take up the walls of Kruckeberg's office. His sons are 12-year-old twins, Trevor and Tyler. They have a couple years before they will be ready to join their father's business but he is paving the way for them.

Kruckeberg has two daughters Jessica, a graduate of Blooming Prairie High School and LeAnna, a 10th grader at Blooming Prairie High School. Jessica works with the family business along with Kruckeberg's wife, Karen.

Kruckeberg designed the large Ameri-Can trash containers in a patriotic theme of red, white and blue.

"Everything is marketing now a days. The business is going very well. These Dumpsters look good in a yard especially if you are tearing out things, such as remodeling. They are blatantly obvious," Kruckeberg said.

Ameri-Can is based out of Blooming Prairie and has satellites in Shelby, Neb., and Phoenix, Ariz. In Minnesota, they will be serve an area from north of Faribault, south to the Iowa border, west to Mankato and east to Rochester.

Kruckeberg has learned about running a business through trial and error. He is on the Blooming Prairie City Council, Blooming Prairie Police Commission Committee, a member of the Jaycees along with his wife, Karen, and president of the Blooming Park and Recreation association.

"I attend a lot of meetings," Kruckeberg said.

The phone number for Ameri-Can is (866) 583-0111.
