The Southland basketball program faces a busy offseason this year.
The high school will need to find new coaches for both teams, as boys' head coach Greg Storey and girls' head coach Slone Suess resigned last week.
After two years of patrolling the Southland sideline, Suess, a former Austin High girls' coach, just wants to spend more time with her family.
"I've got a 2-year-old and 2-month-old," she said, "so I'm looking to spend more time with them right now."
Suess' team finished with a record of 5-20 this past season, falling to top-seeded Medford in sub-sections. The Rebels were 10-11 in her first year. Southland's transition from the Southeast Conference to the Three Rivers Conference was a a rocky one. After finishing second in the SEC two seasons ago, Southland was last in the TRC's South Division with a 1-16 league mark.
"I'm sad to give it up," said Suess, "but I would like to get back into coaching sometime in the future."
Suess replaced Earl Orvick after his retirement. Orvick won more than 400 games as Southland's head girls' basketball coach.
Storey steps down after a six-year stint with the Southland boys' program. His squad was 12-12 this season, losing to Trinity of River Ridge, 53-50, in the Section 1A West Sub-Section quarter-finals. Trinity went on to defeat Rushford-Peterson in the section finals to advance to the state tournament.
