Evan Sorenson won a pair of 60-meter hurdle events to highlight Austin's season-opening track meet at the Mankato Indoor Tuesday night.

Both the Austin boys' and girls' squads ranked third in the final team standings. The girls' team got a second-place finish from the 4×200 and 4×400 relays -- both consisting of Staci Tucker, Emily Johnson, Megan Erickson and Jenny Tucker -- and third-place finishes from Katie Munk in the 1,600 run and Tibisa Thor in the high jump.

Munk and sophomore classmate Natalie Bowers placed 4-5 in the 800. Johnson ranked fourth in the triple jump and Haley Fisher was fourth in the 60-meter hurdles.

"Our sprint relay teams look to be strong again this year," said AHS first-year coach Nancy Jones. "Numbers are up this year and we will be looking forward to competing with a full squad."

Complete boys' results will be reported on Thursday.

Austin's outdoor season starts Monday at the Albert Lea Time Trials.
