Southland squared off with a pair of Section 1 foes Tuesday night in a home triangular, and the Rebel wrestling team emerged with two dual wins over Alden-Conger and Rushford-Peterson.
Joe Klaehn picked up his 100th and 101st career victories with a pin and decision during the three-team meet. His win by fall against Alden-Conger was one of five for the Rebels, who moved to 6-4-1 overall and 2-2-1 in Three Rivers Conference duals.
Alden-Conger brought just seven wrestlers to the event, getting a pair of decisions for its only two wins. The rest were won by pins by Southland wrestlers. Dan Klingfus started the match with a fall of Trevor Nelson in 1:33 at 103 pounds. Klaehn, Pete Churchill, Lucas Smith and Mike Zillgitt also posted first-period pins. Zillgitt's came just 30 seconds into his match at 189 pounds.
"I don't remember the last time we had a wrestler win at 189," joked Southland coach Bill Feuchtenberger.
Rushford-Peterson also had just seven wrestlers, but two of them are ranked by The Guillotine. Hank Becker, No. 6 at 119 pounds in Class A, won a technical fall over Scott Roser at 125. Tenth-ranked Ryan Agrimson ran into Southland's best wrestler in Adam Landherr, rated first at 160, in the 171-pound bout. Landherr won a 10-3 decision.
"Adam did his best to turn him, but eventually he decided he might be quicker than Agrimson so he stayed on his feet," Feuchtenberger said. "This was a real good match for Adam."
Klingfus again started the meet with a pin, taking down Jared Agrimson in just 15 seconds. Zach Stratton (112) won by fall in 24 seconds, and Cory Mees (119) pinned his opponentn in 1:04.
Klaehn won a 9-3 decision over Abe Wilkenmeyer for his 101st career victory.
The Rebels host Section 1 foes Hayfield and Byron, along with Northwood-Kensett, for a quadrangular Thursday night in Adams. Southland will pair up with Hayfield, Byron, and then Northwood-Kensett in the final match of the night. The event starts at 5 p.m.
