Safety for children is paramount

We applaud area and statewide law enforcement agencies for participating in an event that is designed to remind parents to put their children in a safety seat.

Officers across the state have previously participating in the blitz to help ensure that parents aren't only obeying the law, but are placing their children in a safer environment as well.

According to the state Office of Traffic Safety, the misuse or non-use of child safety restraints accounted for 63 fatalities or injuries of children 4 years old and younger in 2000.

That same office also issued statistics that 70 percent of child fatalities and severe injuries could be prevented if child safety restraints were properly used.

It only takes a short amount of time to make sure a child is properly placed in a safety seat. This incentive is a sweet reminder to help parents participate in a worthwhile effort, and one we also support.
