The Southland boys' basketball team got tripped heading into the postseason Friday night, falling at home to eighth-ranked St. Charles by the count of 63-41.
"They've got a tough matchup zone," said Southland head coach Greg Storey, "and we had to take too many perimeter shots because they wouldn't let us get the ball inside."
While the Rebels did hit eight three-pointers, they also had 18 turnovers, which St. Charles turned into 25 transition points. The Saints were led by 19 points from Drew Devine and 15 from Chris Ask.
Greg Retterath scored 12 points, all from three-point range, to lead the Rebels, while Adam Nagele dropped three treys of his own to finish with nine points.
Southland finishes the regular season at 9-8 in Three Rivers Conference play and 12-11 overall. They begin the playoffs next Thursday against Trinity. The Rebels, receiving the fifth seed, meet Trinity at St. Olaf College in Northfield at 8 p.m.
