Grand Meadow runs out of gas

On the heels of a 20 point come-from-behind win the previous night, you'll forgive the the Grand Meadow boys' basketball team if they were a little tired Friday night against Mabel-Canton. The Superlarks hung right with them for three quarters before falling 57-43 in their home finale.

"They hit everything in the fourth," said Grand Meadow head coach Bruce Klaehn, "but it just wouldn't go down for us."

Mabel-Canton hit all six of its free-throws in outscoring their hosts 20-9 in the final quarter.

The Cougars had three players in double figures, with Nathan Pastwa scoring 12 points, Jason Krivachek 11, and Nathan Donald 10.

Grand Meadow got 12 from Eric Holst and 11 from Kyle Breitbarth in a losing effort. They finish the season 7-15 overall and 3-11 in Southeast Conference play.

The Superlarks will get a chance for revenge next Tuesday at 7 p.m. when they travel to Mabel to meet this same Cougar squad in the first round of the playoffs.

"Our guys were a little emotionally drained from last night's win," Klaehn said, "and hopefully we'll get more of our shots to drop next week."
